Implementation of Institutional Repository as a Means of Access to Knowledge and Scientific Communication

Along with the development of information technology, especially the internet, which as we all know is massive, has had a significant impact on the world of Information and Library Science. Try to collaborate with the development of services and technology into a single unit in order to create an excellent service. Early developments ranging from automation systems to digital-based systems or recently more popularly known as virtual libraries. During its development, many institutions have tried to implement a collection management system based on local content services, namely what is termed an institutional repository (IR).

As it is known, the issue of institutional repository (IR) development has turned out to be quite an interesting spotlight among many researchers, academics, universities and research institutions. This can be seen based on the search results in the Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) and Scopus, there are more than 300 articles discussing IR that have been published in various international peer-reviewed journals, spanning from the early 2000s to the present. . Apart from being in the form of journal articles, theses and dissertations focusing on studying IR from various universities in the world are also abundant. Hundreds of books, manuals and websites were created dedicated to IR developers. Several international conferences, especially in the field of library and information science, have also raised IR as the grand theme. The foregoing can show that the importance of developing IR has become a common belief.

Polinema Library as one of the libraries under the auspices of Malang State Polytechnic institution based on the vocational education system tries to apply what is called the institutional repository. The purpose of the library in this case is none other than the creation of a forum as a means of access to scientific communication to sources, especially in the form of local content created by the entire Malang State Polytechnic academic community so that it can be used by library users and society in general.

Regarding the contents of the content repository, Polinema Library provides several scientific works by students consisting of: Final Report (D3) and Thesis (D4). In the future, the library tries to develop several research works and lecturer service to be accessed virtually (online). (Niz)
